Property Description

The Hermitage of Our Lady of El Carmen, known simply as El Carmen, is located in the western part of the Arrbida mountain range.

According to Frei Agostinho de Santa Maria, this sanctuary was built by D. Madalena Giron, 2nd Duchess of Aveiro, in 1560. The palace has a private gross area of 3200 square meters and a 16 thousand square meters plot, highlighting the Chapel of Santa Maria do Carmo, a place of annual pilgrimage, according to what is read in this clergyman's publication.

The Palcio Del Carmen is a historic building built in 1534. For several years, it hosted private events, especially weddings and baptisms. It has two main rooms and a smaller room with a capacity for around 200 people.

The Palace has 3,200 m2 of gross private area and a plot of 16,750 m2. It is spread over two floors:

A house is also attached to the palace with bedrooms, bathrooms, and baths.
This property has enormous potential for recovery for those who want to live in or invest in a unique and historic property.

Located next to the sea, between Setbal and the fishing village of Sesimbra, the Arrbida Natural Park is incomparable in beauty. The blue of the sea alternates with the whitish tones of the limestone cliffs and the green of the dense vegetation covering the mountains.

The plant richness is one of the Park?s most fantastic attractions. Here is one of the rare examples of Mediterranean maquis in Portugal, and its preservation is one of the reasons that Arrbida was considered an authentic international scientific relic. To remain intact, access to some areas is only possible if accompanied by a guide appointed by the Park Headquarters. Several accredited companies organize extreme activities, such as caving, diving, and climbing.

If you want to know more about the fauna and flora, visit the Oceanographic Museum, located in the Forte de Nossa Senhora da Arrbida, next to Praia do Portinho. Almost opposite, you can see Pedra da Anixa, a small islet that constitutes a zoological reserve due to its underwater vegetation.

In addition to Serra da Arrbida, the Park encompasses other elevations, such as Serra do Risco, the highest coastal cliff in mainland Portugal. This magnificent 380-meter-high cliff plunges into the sea, offering an unforgettable panoramic view of the Atlantic.

The meeting of the mountains with the sea created a string of beaches with fine sand and transparent waters that we would think would only be found in the Mediterranean, such as Figueirinha, Galapos, and Portinho da Arrbida.

Preferred by the Franciscan friars who lived in the still existing Convent between the 16th and 19th centuries and meditated in the isolated chapels scattered throughout the mountains, Arrbida has excellent conditions for agriculture and pastoralism, giving rise to high-quality products. You can discover wines by following the Costa Azul Wine Route, which takes you to the friendly village of Azeito, where you can try delicious cheese.
